Acreage jobs start before the concrete
On a rural block, the concrete is usually the last part. Getting the ground ready, and getting a truck to it, is what decides whether the job runs properly.
Access for the truck
Clearing and levelling
Most acreage jobs need the site cleared, dug out and levelled before anything is formed. We do that ourselves, so you’re not booking an earthmoving contractor first and waiting for two trades to line up.
Slope and retaining
A sloping block often needs to be held before it can be levelled. We build sandstone block retaining walls, so the retaining and the concrete are one job with one contractor.
Water and drainage
Southo takes on the jobs that need earthworks, retaining and concrete in one go. That’s the reason acreage owners call us, and it’s what rules out most placement-only concreters.
Rural and acreage services
Each job is quoted as a complete package, with the site works included rather than left for someone else.

Talk to us about your job
How an acreage job runs
The same five stages as any job, with the site works at the front instead of assumed.
Site visit and quote
We look at access, levels, slope and ground conditions, then quote the whole job.
Clearing and excavation
The site is cleared, dug out and levelled, and retaining goes in if the block needs it.
Base and formwork
A compacted base is prepared, then edges, heights and falls are formed up.
Steel and pour
Reinforcement is placed to suit the load, then the concrete is poured and finished.
Joints and clean-up
Control joints are cut, the site is cleaned up, and we tell you when it’s ready to use.
Why acreage owners choose Southo
One crew, ground to finish
Excavation, retaining, formwork, steel, pour and finish, all by the same crew. There’s no second trade to book and no gap between them.
Built for hard sites
Long driveways, sloping blocks and difficult access are the jobs other concreters turn down. Doing our own earthworks is what lets us take them on.
Trusted by trades
Builders and landscaping businesses use us job after job, which is the strongest reference a concreter can get.

Rural concreting FAQs
Anything else, call 0468 491 882.
Do you do the excavation and site preparation on acreage jobs?
Yes. We do the land clearing, excavation and levelling ourselves, then the formwork, reinforcement, pour and finish. You don’t need to organise a separate earthmoving contractor before we can start, and there’s no gap between trades on the job.
How much does a long acreage driveway cost?
It depends on the length and width, how much clearing and excavation the site needs, the slope, the base and reinforcement required, and the finish. A long driveway with earthworks is priced very differently from a short one on prepared ground. The accurate number comes from seeing the block, and quotes are free.
Can a concrete truck get to my block?
Can you build a sandstone retaining wall and do the concrete?
Yes. We build sandstone block retaining walls, so a sloping block can be retained, levelled and concreted by one contractor. It’s common on acreage where a shed slab or driveway needs level ground first.
How far do you travel for rural jobs?
We work across the Hawkesbury and the Hills acreage belt, from Kurrajong and Bilpin through to Wisemans Ferry, Colo, the Blue Mountains ridge and the acreage suburbs around Dural, Kenthurst and Galston.
How thick does a shed slab need to be?
Do you take on small jobs on rural properties?
Our focus is complete projects such as driveways, shed slabs, retaining walls and full concrete packages, where we control the job from clearing to finish. We don’t take on small patch-up or handyman-style repairs.
